Audi City Beijing grand opening

Beijingers stunned by Audi’s virtual world

The first digital showroom in Asia opened on January 31, 2013 in the center of Beijing. “With Audi City Beijing, we bring a new exclusive and futuristic brand experience right to the midst of the urban lives of the people in Beijing,” says Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. “The vibrant capital of our largest sales market worldwide is a perfect location for this innovative digital showroom concept.”

At the opening event, Beijing-born star architect Ma Yansong revealed his art installation Shan-shui City to the public. The exclusive metal art-piece created for Audi Beijing was visualized with fog screen projection and laser mapping technology.

Sven Schuwirth, Head of Brand and Sales Development at AUDI AG, demonstrated the Audi City features by configuring an A7 for Ma on the stage. Following this, Aaron Kwok, singer/actor and R8 LMS racer driver, received an Audi City Key saved with his R8 configuration from Rene Koneberg, Director of Audi Brand Operations at Audi China.

The exclusive opening event had a number of social and entertainment celebrities in attendance, including Charles Xue, Liu Wen, Zhang Yadong, Tan Yuanyuan and Britta Heidemann. As a highlight of the post-event party, singer-songwriter Khalil Fang from Hong Kong hosted the stage performing 5 songs live from his much-loved music collection.

Audi City Beijing is located on Changan Street in the heart of Beijing and close to Tiananmen Square. Visitors to Audi City have the opportunity to fully experience the range of Audi models available in the world – including 360 degree views, highlight features and animations. Thanks to innovative media technology, they can digitally individualize an automobile from several million possible configurations, and can experience it true to life on large screens on a scale of 1:1. With floor space of 2,100 square meters, the two-story cyber showroom also has space for 14 show cars as well as for cultural events and exhibitions.

After London, this is the second Audi City location worldwide. The next Audi City will open soon in Berlin.
