Double-edged strategy to success

As a part of Technical Development (TE) of AUDI AG for more than three decades, Audi Sport is a guarantee for success in motorsport. Be it rallying, touring cars, GT3 racing or sports prototypes: in every discipline in which Audi has contested at factory level to date, the brand with the four rings celebrated landmark victories and won numerous titles worldwide – often in association with new technologies like quattro drive, TFSI, TDI, hybrid or ultra lightweight.
Audi has implemented 18 different motorsport projects so far – from the legendary original quattro (R1) to the latest LMP1 sportscar R18 e-tron quattro. The Audi RS 5 DTM was developed for racing under the project name ‘R17’.
About 200 employees based at the sites in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm are currently responsible for the development and testing of the racecars. A new competence center that will be occupied in 2014 is under construction in Neuburg an der Donau, 25 kilometers west of Ingolstadt. Head of Audi Sport since November 1993 – and thus for almost 20 years – is the Doctor of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.
Responsibility for the business sector customer racing with the Audi R8 LMS ultra and R8 GRAND-AM has been in the hands of quattro GmbH since January 1, 2011. This includes the development, construction, sales and marketing and the comprehensive customer support. Franciscus van Meel took over management of the quattro GmbH in May 2012. Romolo Liebchen is Head of Audi Sport customer racing.
The quattro GmbH celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2013. The AUDI AG subsidiary founded in 1983 represents an exclusive lifestyle under the sign of the four rings. In addition to the Audi R8 and Audi RS models, Audi exclusive and Audi Accessories
are also a part of the quattro GmbH product portfolio.
Within the Board of Management of AUDI AG, Wolfgang Dürheimer, Member of the
Board for Technical Development, is responsible for both Audi Sport and quattro
GmbH.
