Performance does not necessarily require higher consumption – as the engine of the Audi S8 proves. With the innovative Audi cylinder management, it only utilizes the concentrated power of all eight cylinders when it is actually required.
In the event of low driving resistance, four of the eight cylinders automatically switch off. Thus the S8 continues to drive in partial load operation, with correspondingly lower fuel consumption and emissions; however, the comfort and driving dynamics remain unchanged. In order to use the the 4.0 TFSITFSIAudi was the first manufacturer in the world to combine petrol direct injection with turbocharging in large-scale car productionTFSI power unit’s powerful 382 kW output even more efficiently, the S8 is also equipped with a start-stop system and recuperation. This turns it into a luxurious, high-performance athlete that makes intelligent use of power and endurance: for outstanding dynamic performance with a high level of efficiency.
The engine works with the Audi valvelift system which generates a higher torque – whilst consuming less fuel. Thanks to its very spontaneous responsiveness and exceptional power delivery across the entire engine speed range, the 8-cylinder engine promotes a sporty superior driving style. Its 382 kW accelerate the S8 from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2seconds. At 250 km/h the engine is electronically regulated.
