quattro® permanent all-wheel drive
The quattro® technology stands for permanent power to all four wheels distributed between the front and rear axles. Power to each axle leads to a low power requirement with very well balanced handling.
Especially on slippery road surfaces the quattro® permanent four-wheel drive guarantees more driving pleasure. If the wheels of one axle lose grip and threaten to spin, the drive torque is redirected in the central differential to the other axle, automatically and continuously. The quattro® technology takes into account the influence of the engine speed and torque, the wheel speeds and the forward and lateral acceleration. The result: better acceleration, greater lateral stability, improved traction and higher safety.
Faster gearshifts, sportier driving: the S tronic® combines the sporty characteristics of a manual gearbox with the advantages of an automatic. Gear-changes with the dual-clutch gearbox are performed easily and with no appreciable delay. Depending on the driver’s preference, the gears may be shifted in fully automatic mode or in manual mode using the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.
Double act: the dual clutch forms the technical basis of the S tronic®. One of the two clutches engages the odd-numbered gears and reverse, the other engages the even-numbered gears. The benefit: a gearbox that shifts from one gear to the next in less than 0.2 seconds and with no interruption in power flow.
Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP)
Special ESP sensor, integrates the ABS, EBD/ASR and EDL functions, and uses the real-time data of the vehicle and the computer reference data for comparison; gets the best stability by targeted braking of individual wheels and intervention in the engine management system.
Source control feedback and support function, automatic straight-line running correction system, e.g. in side winds or roads with a lateral incline; energy-saving operation, damping of road-induced interference.
