Audi is the pioneer in turbocharged diesel engines with direct injection. 1989 was the year in which TDI was born: Audi presented the world’s first car diesel engine with direct injection and electronic management at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). Turbodiesel technology with direct injection became a major success.
