The quattro® technology stands for the permanent power to all four wheels distributed between the front and rear axles. The power to each axle leads to a low power requirement with very well balanced handling. Especially on slippery road surfaces the quattro® permanent four-wheel drive guarantees more driving pleasure. If the wheels of one axle lose grip and threaten to spin, the drive torque is redirected in the central differential to the other axle, automatically and continuously. The quattro® technology takes into account the influence of the engine speed and torque, the wheel speeds and the forward and lateral acceleration. The result will be better acceleration, greater lateral stability, improved traction and higher safety.
Audi drive select®
The standard-fit Audi drive select® control system allows you to influence a wide array of operating dynamics control systems over and above the engine, transmission and steering. The system alters such aspects as the accelerator characteristic, adaptive air suspension, transmission characteristic, damper control, reversible belt tensioner and, if fitted, the sport differential, dynamic steering and cornering light. The engine speeds at which the gear changes take place are altered – in the dynamic mode, they are delayed until higher revs are reached, whereas in the comfort mode the transmission changes gear at a lower engine speed. For damper control, the level of damping force changes. On the optional quattro® with sport differential (standard for 4.2 TDI), the drive torque distribution is varied.
